The Summit County Historical Society and Progress Through Preservation invite you to join us for the 2023 Architectural Heritage Awards Driving Tour.
During breakfast, we will have an introductory presentation by Alice Christie of the award winners that you will be visiting, and Akron developer, Tony Troppe, will share the history of the United/BLU-Tique building and give us a brief tour.
Then, participants will receive a list and map of the award winners. Five sites are available for inside tours at specific times noted on the map. Five more you can drive past at your own discretion.
Besides Blu-Tique, the other open tour sites are the following:
- Robinson Manor
- John Barry House
- Glendale Bell Tower (exterior review only)
- Civil War Chapel at Glendale
- John S. Knight House
The Architectural Heritage Awards are presented in even-numbered years as a joint project between Progress Through Preservation and the Summit County Historical Society to recognize projects, individuals, and organizations that celebrate and enhance the architectural importance and historic character of Akron and greater Summit County. In odd-numbered years we visit the previous year’s recipients.
This is a rare opportunity to tour five award-winning sites in one day. The cost of the tour is $30 for individuals or $50 for a couple. Join your friends and make your reservations via EventBrite (2023 Architectural Heritage Awards Driving Tour) or call Alice Christie at 330-864-8364 or email her at achristie@malone.edu. The BLU-Tique Hotel is located at 1 South Main Street (the corner of Main and Market) and free parking is available in the library parking lot entered from South High Street. Use the lower level of the parking deck and follow the signs to the hotel entrance.
