Join us in celebrating the 2018 Architectural Heritage Award recipients. The awards, presented biennially as a joint project of the Summit County Historical Society and Progress Through Preservation, recognize projects, individuals, and organizations that celebrate and enhance the architectural importance and historic character of Akron and greater Summit County.

The 2018 awards represent a variety of award categories. This year’s recipients include the following:

The Wine Mill, Peninsula

Akron Soap Factory and The Cascade Lofts, downtown Akron

Pillar House - Seiberling Homestead, Norton

The Scissor Room, Munroe Falls

A Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Allan Sveda of Hudson.

Jurors for 2018 are Vic Fleischer, Mark Gilles, Sylvia Johnson, Jon Morschl, Chas Schreckenberger and Mark Smith.

The event starts wih brunch at 10:00 AM on Saturday, April 28, at the Trailhead Eventspace, 21 West North Street. The event center is located on the first floor of the Cascade Lofts Building which is one of our award winners that had been the Swinehart Tire & Rubber Company.  The current building was built in 1914 and is situated along the canal towpath at lock 15. It is now considered part of the Cascade Locks Historic District. A pedestrian bridge at the end of the parking lot leads over the canal to the Mustill Store and House.

The brunch by Vaccaro’s Catering will be followed by the awards presentation. After the awards ceremony, guests may tour portions of the Cascade Lofts building.

Directions: From the corner of Main and Market Streets in downtown Akron, go north on Main Street (which becomes Howard Street when you pass MLK Jr. Blvd./Perkins Street) and immediately after the North Street intersection (second light) turn left into the driveway for the Cascade Lofts parking lot.
