Jun 19, 2022

Join us for an Akron History Hike to the John Brown Monument for Juneteenth and Father's Day guided by Dave Lieberth, Director Emeritus

Learn more about John Brown, the famed abolitionist who lived in Hudson, Richfield, Akron and Franklin Mills (Kent) before his 1859 raid on the U.S. Arsenal at Harpers Ferry in an attempt to end slavery in the United States.

Enter the Akron Zoo main entrance and follow the signs guiding you left and to the back of the main parking lot for a hike up to the John Brown Monument on Sunday, June 19th at 9:00 a.m.

The program will be led by Dave Lieberth, Society Director Emeritus and Executive Secretary of the Akron Bicentennial. Thank you to the Akron Zoo for providing access to the monument and for its care.

Attendance to this special Akron History Hike does not provide free access to the Akron Zoo. See their website for ticket information and reservation requirements: AkronZoo.org.

The event will take place rain or shine. Please dress according to the weather and temperature and wear appropriate footwear to trek uphill on uneven terrain.
